Empowering women, Protecting nature

About Us

Elizabeth Salaman, born in Colombia and whose own mother, Amparo, was a victim of abuse and died at the early age of 42 from a brain tumor.

Amparo dedicated her life to training and caring for women in rural areas of Colombia. Inspired by and in her honour Amparo Crafts was established in 2009 by Elizabeth, Amparo in spanish means shelter and protection.

Amparo Crafts seeks to offer an income and a better way of life for those who have no alternative but to exploit the natural resources around them in order to provide for their families. Logging for timber, hunting wild life for food and illegal trapping of birds and primates for the pet trade are a common practice in many areas rich in biodiversity.

The main project we support, by selling their products is Women for Conservation.

We provide opportunities to local artisans, in particular women who live in extreme poverty; by training them to make environmentally friendly hand-made accessories such as fashion jewellery made with exotic seeds.

By buying products from Amparo you are both empowering these women and supporting conservation of the rainforest of Colombia.

HOST YOUR OWN PARTY

Our U.K base of operations is located in South Yorkshire from where we also provide a mobile house party service, where you can support the projects in Colombia by hosting a Jewellery party in the comfort of your own home. You can also enjoy a discount of up to 20% of all non sale articles sold on the day.

EVENTS

Elizabeth would be happy to consider attending and giving a presentation on the work of Amparo Crafts and Women for Conservation, whilst also giving people the opportunity to purchase.
